I saw much the same at Welney, There are large flocks of them over there and often they rise up spontaneously circle a few times then settle down again. I do look for a cause that makes them act defensively but can never see one.

Jenny a raptor is a bird of prey so a falcon or a marsh harrier.. a hen harrier or a buzzard, owls
. Any predatory bird really.

Maurice, the birds are in a constant look out for the birds of prey and they see them from a far greater distance than we do. I guess the predator is very high in the sky.
