Avian Ecologists

Avian Ecologists
Zorki-C, Unknown lens;

These scientists study how birds and other wildlife respond to "disturbance" in forests. This usually means fire. Turns out fire in many forests is more of a good thing than most people think. Some species of woodpeckers need burned forest areas to persist. Apparently, fire has been a part of forest ecosystems for a long, long time.
The hole that one scientist is pointing to is a white-headed woodpecker nest (cavity).
