Pennine local
An unidentified Class 142, in MerseyRail livery, has just departed Marsden and is about to plunge into the depths of Standedge Tunnel, with a local service to Manchester Victoria.
The construction site in about centre left of picture is in connection with the reopening of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal tunnel, adjacent to the railway line, following many decades of disuse; it closed to traffic in 1948, and finally reopened in May 2001.
