Y7 Day 12, Sitting ducks

Y7 Day 12, Sitting ducks
January 2016 Scavenger Challenge 5. Create a black-and-white landscape using the Rule of Thirds (point of interest on one of the intersections of an imaginary tic-tac-toe grid).

Walking around Aotea lagoon this morning I came across this flock of ducks. I composed the shot aiming to get the white head in the 1/3 grid cross point (very nearly did - small crop); but it wasn't till later that I realised I should have stepped to the right a bit so the ducks would be looking INTO the photo instead of out into space. My eye went first to the windmill and second to the white-headed duck. The windmill is NOT on a Rule of Thirds intersection, but the duck is close enough. I'll let you squeak through with this one, but if you can replace it with something where there's no distraction from the Rule of Thirds point, please do.

The shot was composed with the ducks in mind, with the windmill placed for background interest. Said windmill had been centered in my original composition, and was never intended as the main subject, as it's out there in the DOF

Ah, but whatever your intent was, the windmill is still the first thing which catches the eye.

Aw, not quite the rule, as Crow says, the windmill is the first thing that stands out
