HFF Alexanderplatz East Berlin Germany 18th August 1972
After a recent visit to Germany I thought I would post this shot of Alexanderplatz in what was East Berlin in 1972.

My railway interest was at a low ebb & I couldn't be bothered to walk over to the station to get a decent shot of the Pacifics still steam-hauling trains in the eastern zone.

The Fernsehturm is on the extreme right & the tower in the distance is the Rathaus making the train an arrival at Berlin Alexanderplatz station (to the right behind the high rise).

The mono suits well here Peter. Memories restored to me of my trip to AlexanderPlatz just a few years prior to this. I did not see any steam trains though. Only a couple of old poor photos to remind me that trip now. Did you go through 'Check Point Charlie' ? Well done.

Yes we did Herb. We drove from West Germany across the East to West Berlin and then crossed over. All in all a very interesting experience

I love this pic. Went to East Berlin a lot as I had relatives there. Alexanderplkatz was the place to change from S-Bahn to U-Bahn.
