Do they still make plain heavy duty cotton overalls or are they all from surplus stores? A very good portrait of a man at work.

Yes Phil, there are still a few manufacturers of traditional railway blues and overalls. I buy mine from the NYMR shop. Working on the footplate near that fire they have to be heavy duty cotton or you would get burnt through them. Of course synthetic fibre could even melt if you get too close to the firehole doors!
