There is a big exhibit behind glas now, unfortunately propper opening times when the whole exhibit gallery around the dug out foundations can be visited are a bit scarce. Here we got a two-dimensional slave, busy fiering the remains of the hypocaust.

In recent years this type of preservation of ancient remains has become quite usual. They set a kind of elevated corridor made of glass, so that it allows you to see through it what was left below.
Nice capture.

We got several roman ruins made accessible in a hall of this type along the alps. but often we get iron mesh or just planks and a good LED lighting below walkways so the hidden stuff in the shadows can be seen well from other angles. It's more durable than glass bottoms that go dim from scratches in a few years and so cheaper, also easier in maintainance and less slippery on the rainy days.

I must say that in some cases here they have also used this iron mesh platform you mention.

Lots of advantages, unless you want to force all museum visitors into felt oversocks to shuffle about in.... ;o)

A nice museum that can not have been cheap to build. They concepted it as good visible big show case from outside when closed as it is only open in the summer months for one hour and a bit on the sunday mornings! So far we never managed to visit when open, although its right by one of the routes between Altenstadt and Friedrichshafen.
