Saint Christopherus Mural / Wandbild des Heiligen Christopherus

Saint Christopherus Mural / Wandbild des Heiligen Christopherus
A typical giant one at the outside on the parish church. Obviously mostly destroyed when a gothic window was put in the same place, likely much edited and repaired at bing recovered. / So ein typisches riesenhaftes. Offenbar grossteils verloren als man ein gotisches Fenster an die selbe Stelle setzte, dann als man es wiederfand wohl sehr aufgefrischt statt es nur zu erhalten.

Rather barbaric to destroy this for the sake of a window.

I dont think this was done somewhen in the last 250 years, when rediscoveries of romanesque Saint Christopher paintings got usually celebrated and documented. During the real gothic and baroque styles times, those artworks often on or in churches by trade routes where just out of fashion. They vanished through the building of larger windows, choir and organ balconies, side chapels....

Here for example was on on the side wall all the way down, now there is a side portal starting just ouside this ceiling shot at the hight of his chest:
Aisle Vaulting / Seitenschiff Deckengewoelbe

This one ended up behind the organ loft and was only found some years ago. From the nave the whole of it can only be seen when one goes close to the main altar and turns around:
