Yes, that are nice leafs those got. Unfortunately I could not get closer in to the details as a ditch filled with dirty brown water and slopes all consisting of tall stinging nettles and thistles was keeping me about 1,5 metres from the nearest specimen. :(

We get a lot of marsh orchids in late spring, but not this species. Instead it's a roughly equal mix of northern and southern plus many hybrids.

Frankly, why you brits named your dactylorhizas after the directions of the wind is rather funny to me as such. It german I can sort of memorise them in their differences but in english I just do mix them up all the time and have to double check with latin in a seach engine to see what comes up before putting a name to them, even if I know for once with some certainity what species they are! :)
