With the tree and creche still in place but long after the advent market time, so one can actually walk there / Noch mit Tannenbaum und Krippe, aber lange nach dem Weihnachtsmarkt, da ist tatsaechlich wieder Platz zum spazieren.

Not a soul in sight. The best time of all to do one's shopping. We avoid shopping of any kind if possible during the Christmas season.

LOL -- there is not much any private EU citizen in their right mind would like to buy across the swiss border these days unless its something like a hot snack for direct consumption or something like a ride or entrance ticket... I wonder if chrstmas markets at Stein are still as busy as some years ago because how prices have become with the very strong Fraenkli, but it was really scaryly crammed with people back we experianced it last. We always try to go when it all is over, early January is a good time. They have so beautiful old houses to look at, and they sell regional speciality riesling soup in some of the downtown restaurants which is nice and warming, exactly the thing needed after birdwatching and so yummy one forgets about the silly Frankli.
