Excellent capture of this little guy. We miss these bright and intelligent little birds from our time in Europe.

Bright as in perky and resourceful? But every american chickadee species has about similar qualities as the tits of europe and north africa! And actually I think your Chestnut Backed Chickadee of the upper westcoast is at least as nicely coloured as our Blue Tit if not prettier! :)

That is indeed how I meant the word "bright." I suppose, though that familiarity breeds contempt since you certainly are correct about the Chickadees.

Of course, it may be that we tend to think the showier tits from far away exotic places are the most pretty ones. To me big favorites are the Briddled Titmouse of the rockies, followed closely by russian Azure Tits as best looking paridae of them all.
Some german birdwatcher do group the very common but colourful Great and Blue Tits humorously as the "Genschbirds", hinting on the former minister's Hans-Dietrich Genscher's habit to wear a thin armless sweater of his FDP party colour with a colared shirt and tie, back when male politicians where not supposed to be very colourful, leave alone walk about like a huge lemon in a suit.... :D
But fact is that a lot of chickadee and tit species are a somewhat plain sort, prefering to wear some bland and very similar colour scheme, whilst the "Genschbirds" are at least sweet yellow peeps around the tummy... :D
