Seen after passing it on the upper hiking trail. Below one can see the road and sidewalk promenade above the pasterze outflow / Ein Blick zurueck vom oberen Wanderweg. Ganz unten sieht man auch die Strasse mit Gehsteig entlang des Gletscherabflusses.

Thanks for the invite! I joined your group but I am not really sure this picture qualifies much as the trail bottom of this roundtrip walk is not shown anywhere near me, just a tiny bit of the next higher slope on the upper right close to the observatory and the road sidewalk from where we started. This is anyway an odd kind of mountain trail, first up a sidewalk like in the city, then upstairs inside a big building (elevator possible), afterwards some kind of near level graveled garden path through an alpine meadow past the observatory and the memorial stone where Emperor Franz-Josef rested on his hike, finally a stretch of descending paved serpentines down to a restaurant sundeck. :)
Sometimes I hike on real trails and do take shots that include the ground. Let me look for some old pics that are better fitting...

I assume that the observatory is made of Austrian Crystal. Fabulous scenery.

It is shaped like rock crystal, but the windows are of course regular glass. What Swarovsky addvertises in there is not the glittery knick-knacks and jewelery, but the optics branch of the company. In summer you can go in there to try out mounted spectives and binocs by them and they got nature exhibits with stuffed belated critters and suchlike to go with it.

Ha, so Swarovski have an observatory named after them. Figures. Makes sense for them to use a lookout point like that to promote their stuff.
