This taste- and respectless Kaufhof-/Karstadt architecture has destroyed so many towns in Germany.

Seems like a mixture of old and new with the new not blending in so nicely. Great view of the place though.

This "new" thing was a Horten when it first opened. I remember the event, but I was still a rather young child at the time. My dad went all the way to Kempten for the grand opening sales and went nuts in the electronics department. I was gifted with a balloon by the seller, and we came back home with our first colour TV, a huge box in "rustic oak" , so big we also needed a new shelf and my mom said we will go blind as we can not sit far enough back from it!
That was really very long ago.... Horten chain since went belly up, this store like several others was big enough to get safed by Kaufhof. Those in all stores of the type alike facades made up from a lacework of the letter "H" for Horten are in some cities historic protected arectecture by now, usually a Kaufhof Galleria is residing inside. But I concur, I do not like the looks a whole lot either, especially I never quite like elder flat roofs in a part of the state where wet snow might pile up really high in winter.
