Malpais means badlands in spanish , it's a bit like Craters of the Moon Monument... lots of black volcanic rocks and lichen everywhere / Malpais bedeuted schlechter Boden, also nichts fuer Ackerwirtschaft. Es gibt da vorallem schwarze Lavabrocken und Flechten

The Landscapes of Craters of the Moon near Arco, ID and some of the less populated parts of Fuerteventura look to me most similar. Have you never been to Craters so the Moon?
