Magpie / Elster

Magpie / Elster
Looking after the swiftlets. Alas it got clobbered for this offense to "swiftly" to get a pic of the action / Die schaute auch nach den Mauersegler Babies. Allerdings wurde sie dafuer gleich so schnell von den Mauerseglern vertrimmt, dass ich davon kein scharfes Bild erwischte.

Even though the Elster can be a bit of a "bully" he was one of my favorite birds when we lived in Europe...he's so colorful and has such personality!

I can understand that. I am very fond of your "Rhymes-with- ornithological-debacle"s, too :D
They certainly sing a lot more melodious than corvidae while showing almost similar smarts sometimes. When we lived in the USA, nobody had an understanding for me being almost more impressed with the icteridae than with cardinals and hummingbirds :)

The Magpie, BTW, in german got the female gender. It's "Die Elster", so that would be "she". No idea why that is so, tho'...
