Magpie / Elster

Magpie / Elster
Making itself a nuisiance to a smal bird of prey. It was obviouly not happy the raptor choose the interpretive marker as a perch. / Dabei, einem kleineren Raubvogel auf die Nerven zu gehen. Sie war wohl nicht damit einverstanden, das er auf der Lehrtafel sass.

Magpies always seem to chase the birds of prey - even bigger ones like our local buzzards

Oddly, I thought that wee guy was a buzzard from colour and proportions until the magpie showed up for scale, and when it finally left it had in spite of the nearly unbarred tail a distinct falcon jiz in the flight pattern. I guess it was a Sparrow Hawk, albeit a rather freshly fledged baby. Most songbirds that go pecking and bothering a Buzzard or Kite without second thoughts fear a Sparrow Hawk to the extend they just hide and fall silent when it is nearby.
