A nice capture of this iconic craft! People keep saying they're going to bring them back - it would be nice to see the sky full of them!

They can't build them any faster, Dave, sorry.... It is only a smal company in my town again, and they built all hardframed ones of the last years. :D

I'd love to fly in one.

The joyrides in the thing are terribly expensive although they also make advertising money usually flying with ugly decals from a bank, big company, major newspaper or utility provider on the hull. the shortest 30 minute town roundtrip is 200 euro for a person.

One afternoon in 1915 my father was coming home from Boy Scouts on the top of an open bus in east London when he saw a Zeppelin flying over from the east. He remembers being terrified!

Nigel, in 1915 that must have been a real oldfashioned big one full of helium! I guess I'd be horrified too -- LOL

Hard to say for someone who lives in their shadow what people from elsewhere may feel! :) Well okay, happens only sometimes for a few seconds they truely block sunlight from my yard in season but at least the things are very silent, one hears usually less than from a motorized childs toy down in the drive when it goes directly across the block. Living about 1 km west of Friedrichshafen airport I just got very used to living with the artificial oval cloud carrying a cabin the size of a minivan below it in the last decade.

Still, I rarely see it on the ground, and if I do, then usually only through an ugly wiremesh fence. So during the festivities for the count's birthday we went to the free exhibit in the hangar and the technical fun fair on the site. They had both zeppelins present moored securely that day and did allow people not to close, so that made for some special shots.
