Richard Francis Timson R.I.P.

Richard Francis Timson R.I.P.
I visited my 'Grand Uncles' grave in Cambrai, Northern France today. Site of the worlds first tank battle and in the heart of the Somme. He was my Grandfathers brother on my fathers side. I am the first Timson to visit and I have to admit to being more than a little choked. It's quite a thing to see a graveyard full of people with an average age of 20 who were among 'millions' of others who all died roughly the same age. My grandfather (whom I never met, dying a couple of years before I was born) was also at the Somme. He was actually sent home after injury but having convalesced he then re-applied to the then new airforce and returned to fight. Apart from that short break he served for the entire war. Richard, my Grand Uncle being two years younger served from 1916 and died four weeks before armistice day. A shocking waste of lives and yet 16 years later we did it again...
