Ice cold steam

Ice cold steam
My last visit to the immense Jalainur opencast coal mine was in January 2008 and coincided with exceptionally cold conditions. The cold air was falling into the pit and as we descended the temperature reached -35C. Of course this made for epic steam effects as many steam SY class locomotives worked their loads up and down between the levels. It was busy too!

Yes it is. His job is to signal to the driver that the line ahead is clear when on the legs out f the pit where the loco is pushing from the rear of the train. He was very well wrapped up!
