Disused ovens

Disused ovens
S.A. Cokeries et Houillères d'Anderlues first erected coke ovens in 1904 which were replaced by new ones in 1931. The works produced foundry coke and was one of the smallest and oldest coke by-product plants still operating in Belgium at the time of closure in November 2002.

Very interesting to find this photo here from 2012. We were there some weeks ago, but no chance to access the site, everywhere high fences :-(

For a short time I worked as a labourer on the coke ovens at a Scunthorpe steelworks in 1969. Very hot, dirty and smelly place. To see ovens like this is a bit strange!
