Great Wall by cable

Easy access to the steep heights of the Great Wall of China is attained by using this cablecar at Mutianyu. It is only a few years since tourists had to slog up many steps and slopes to reach the wall. China is changing fast and has already changed a lot.

I caught the cable car up the hill there in 2005. It seemed to have been there a while then. Some of the souvenir shops smelt of new concrete and there was a general construction look about the place. We returned down the hill on a louge thingy, a semi-circular cross-section apparently stainless steel track which twisted and turned its way down the hill.

I found the most interesting thing there was walking of the end of the restored section to see it au naturale.
