What a wonderful image. Not a "pretty picture", it captures so much of the atmosphere - cold, dirty and hard-working. The noise must have been impressive too. I didn't spot the "second tier" immediately; that just adds to the overall effect and stresses the fact that this is a "working" railway system, not a steam special or Heritage line. Is that the guard, perched on the back?
