as the bird said to the toad...

as the bird said to the toad...
sony alpha a57 set to manual and mono, fitted with a minolta 70-210 'beercan' legacy lens, skylight filter attached. (the tractor is in focus, but heat haze has not yet been overcome by camera technology!)

shot for 'the sunday challenge' - ground level

as the bird said to the toad:
"hop along quick, get out of the road!"
but there was a slurp and a crunch
as a flat toad became lunch
for a bird who couldn't talk toad.

kneeling before a lumbering tractor on a dusty byway in the fens is all part and parcel of belonging to 'the sunday challenge' group :-) making up a verse to go with the photograph, well that's just a freebie!

no nfc, bluetooth or magic wands were used in the making of this image

(ground level by the stereo mc's here www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWbsDuG66pg )

I would never have attempted a shot like this as there is no way in hell I could have gotten up off the ground to run out of the way!!
I think the heat haze adds to this shot...it reminds me so much of a hot dusty day over here.

Brilliant shot Jon. You're braver than me, I don't think my knees would allow me to get up and away quick enough.

I hope you were further away than it looks! Wonder what the guy in the tractor thought seeing you out the front? Great image which emphasizes the hot dusty work that farmers have to deal with. It almost makes me think of the dust bowls of the 1930's out west. (not that I was around at the time mind you) Nicely done Jon.

the dude in the tractor probably figured you had been harvesting in the poopy fields beforehand! I love this shot Jon!

Ha ha ha what great rhyme Jon. (I'm keeping liddle Calamity away from that tractor though.)

What a feeling this photo conveys. I have been here.. I can smell the dry grass, the earth, the dust and I can feel the rumble of that tractor.

Great idea to use the Minolta lens! Your picture came out excellent - dusty, hazy and hot looking, just like working in the fields is all about!

great love the heat haze, and that distant chimney and angled plume is a great counterpoint to the the landscape.

A while ago I saw your Flying Dog picture. It stood out amidst a wall of pictures as a unique and great shot. This one does too. I like your work, Jon. You have a style all your own. Not an easy thing to accomplish with the whole world taking pictures these days. What I also like is that both the Flying Dog picture and this one show how overrated sharpness is. :)

that is really kind of you levina!

as for my style, it develops and changes in all of us holding a camera for long enough - but i do love unfocussed photography!

many thanks for your kindness
