shot for 'the sunday challenge' - parallel lines. this group of poles and their wires is often the subject of interest to my various lenses. they occupy a lonely spot in the cambridgeshire fens but their ugly and off balance presence has formed an integral part of the landscape. i am always drawn back to them, so i was lucky this week with the indifferent weather making way for periods of bursting sunlight, here allowing for the parallel lines of wire to be highlighed so well. the parallels in the furrow markings and the mist didn't go unnoticed either.

oh I love it! There are a few spots here that gets the powerlines highlighted like this... I have n.e.v.e.r. been able to show them like this... this is a fave for me, great lines all round jon~boy!

*perhaps your power company needs a business card from my powerline work... we don't 'do' crooked poles!*

the cambridgeshire fens were once a series of giant lakes and meandering waterways wendi. on a peat soil, they are way under sea level here and the landscape literally moves, with roads constantly needing repair work and poles like this often seen at very jaunty angles!

Jon Smith has replied to Shuttering Yukon
that's really kind, thanks a lot wendi! it's actually a photograph i'm quite proud of - and i don't say that often.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this and absolutely everything right. You are more than justified in being proud of it. It works on every level. I feel I am there at that moment and wishing I had my camera with me for the unlikely event of producing this. Truly inspiring.

Jon Smith has replied to Adrian Bollans
that's really kind adrian. i'm sure you would have produced a super image from this scene too. that's the really great thing about photography in that the camera users eyes see and are tempted by different things. the variations of equipment settings can be so much down to personal taste and alter completely the 'flavour' of any image.

Great shot Jon, it has a lovely feel to it. Looks a very simple subject but yet an extremely striking image. Very atmospheric with the mist, lovely colour in the sky and the wires really stand out.
Brilliant work.

o0o yes try it ... because telepgraph poles and even street lights
can turn out brilliantly ... with street lights at night they can turn out
like long christmas decorations ;-) but you will see what I mean,
but its fun to try and remember tilt up and down and you can
also pan quickly side to side ... you never quite know how it
will turn out ;-) best of luck oOo
