Evening in the Cherwell Valley

Evening in the Cherwell Valley
The setting sun peers through thin cloud to give a mellow hue at the farmer's crossing. It's harvest time but many of the fields here are set-aside now and have gone to seed.

A four-car Voyager has the 1727 Manchester-Bournemouth. Getting to this spot is getting harder as the set-aside fields mature. Soon I shall need a machete and a team of natives to carry my gear... :)

What is meant by 'set-aside field'? Fallow for a year? Unused till market conditions improve?

Not sure if 'set-aside' is UK or EU funded. I suspect the latter and I wonder what our countryside will look like in 20 years time!
A nice shot.
