New stubble, old ironstone

New stubble, old ironstone
The wheat has been harvested as Bushey Furze Barn contemplates the end of another blazing summer's day. The orange-red ironstone which graces so many villages in Northamptonshire and north Oxfordshire is less often noticed on the farms.

It goes back several centuries, the high roof indicating that it was originally thatched, which would predate arrival of the railways and Welsh slate (a corrugated roof has since been fitted). Any more thoughts, welcome!

Location: Manor Farm, Near Bodicote, Oxfordshire.

Wonderful composition Steve, I guess the roof is asbestos sheet from the amount of lichen on them, great colour stone.

Cheers, Roger, I think you're right. It's quite sobering to try and imagine a thatched barn these days isn't it?
