Cherwell harvest

Cherwell harvest
A balmy if breezy day, looking across the valley. There used to be four farms here, the survivor is Manor Farm with its ancient ironstone barn to the right: Bushy Furze Barn.

Thankfully invisible in the dip is the river, canal, railway and motorway. This side is Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire on the far side with no sign of habitation for many miles, just open countryside, mostly under the plough, with the occasional spinney. Best known is Newbottle Spinney prominent on the far horizon. It used to be coppiced to provide wood for the villages and hamlets.

To the distant right, where the ground rises from the valley, there used to be an ironstone quarry, Astrop, with its own railway and main line connection.

Location: A couple of miles SE of Banbury, due east of Bodicote.
