Banbury Town Hall - south side

Banbury Town Hall - south side
Another view of the Town Hall on a sunny day in early spring (see also the previous picture from the east). This magnificent building in Victorian Gothic style, reminiscent of scenes in Oxford and Cambridge, was very tastefully matched in tones when the adjacent bank (of which a corner can be seen) was rebuilt a few years ago.

Alas, the Council is surrounding it with trees which are too close and simply screen it from sight. I like trees and greenery a great deal but when a building the town should be proud of gets screened out of sight? Note how the trees are just a few feet away. A raised flower has also been added, in a different style altogether. Hmmm...

Yes, a fine building needs to be uncluttered in aspect. The trees should be at a distance.

We have a lot to be thankful for from the Victorian age, I think every town and city has its super Town Hall, built with confidence and pride in design and materials.

Thanks, Joan, you're spot on, thanks. And looking again at this view, that sapling bang in front - obviously somebody from the Council came by and went "Oi, there's a gap we missed - quickly, fill it"! This ought to go in the Big Book of Silly Trees. :)
