Sacred to the memory of the Right Honorable Lady Alvanley, widow of the Right Honourable Lord Alvanley someitme Lord Chief Justice of his Majesty's Court of Common Pleas; who departed this life on the 17th of January 1825 aged 67 years and was buried near this spot.
She was the most excellent of woman with the most elevated sentiments of piety, severe to herself, she was lenient to the faults of others, charitable, generous and self denying, she died lamented by all who knew her.
Her children, to whom her loss is irreparable, have erected this tribute of their lasting regret and affection to the best of mothers."

Anne Dorothea Wilbraham-Bootle was born 26 Septmeber 1757 the daughter of Richard Wilbraham-Bootle and Mary Bootle.
On 9th September 1784 she married Richard Pepper Arden, 1st Baron Alvanley.
She died 17th January 1825 at the British Hotel in Edinburgh.
They had three children - William, Frances Henrietta and Richard.
She was an early friend of Sir Walter Scott
