Magpie (Pica pica).

Magpie (Pica pica).
The Eurasian Magpie, European Magpie, or Common Magpie (Pica pica) is a resident breeding bird throughout Europe, much of Asia and northwest Africa. It is one of several birds in the crow family named as magpies and belongs to the Holarctic radiation of "monochrome" magpies. In Europe, "Magpie" is used by English speakers as a synonym for the European Magpie; it is the only magpie in Europe outside the Iberian Peninsula.
The Eurasian Magpie is one of the most intelligent birds and it is believed to be one of the most intelligent of all animals.

One of the blasted things appears to have taken up semi-residence in my henhouses... I'm lucky if I get any of the eggs myself! :0(

Nice photo, though... :0)

I thought they were black?..Is this the same one as the common one we see here?..I am confused..easily done!

Very good shot of it..looks full of attitude as they are!

Some of the "black" feathers are actually an iridescent dark-blue when seen in the right lighting conditions. This was an unplanned shot....I was trying to photograph another bird (waiting for it to turn around) when this magpie landed on a nearby roof so I "shot" this one instead :-)
