Future use of CAD systems

Future use of CAD systems
As I was selecting the Freeway shot, this was the next one in the vid and it stands as Mead's prediction of future computer-aided-design systems. In front of the designers is a gridded side view that they input the data through and the upper display is a 3D portrayal of the vehicle's resulting surfaces and boundary-layer airflow. These days, Syd himself uses computer-aided design software for his more recent work.
Notice the very low profile tire on the front of this car, probably on a 20-inch wheel. Nothing remotely like this, existed in the early '60s!

Martin van Duijn, RQ 01012015 have particularly liked this photo

I've loaded this photo and the previous in hi-rez, so go to 'more options' and choose 'see all sizes' to view the pic at 1440 pixels width.

Truly! I'm honored to participate with him. Hopefully, some will rub off....

Fascinating. I'm sure there must be something coming out for you with this Mead project.

Well, I'll be paid for the models, but just doing this project with him is the greater goal. He's very personable and it will be a smooth combination of our skills that will make the true outcome. The scenario is like this: the futurist designs the particular vehicle and then, 50-odd years later, someone like myself comes along, sees that the design is still relevant and says 'we can build this'. The diecasts will show the complete vision for the first time and who knows, a full-size, one-off concept prototype may come out of it! It would be an instant museum piece, maybe even score a part in a movie....

Man, this would be a sweet setup at work. I hope Alias Automotive will be 3D in the not too distant future.

Didn't know Mr. Mead was involved with the project; congrats! I'll continue to watch from the sidelines as it takes shape.

Yes, even in '61, Syd knew that wallscreens would evolve to commonplace use with computers. Hey, I hope we have something fun for you to watch. I love the build process...
