The little building to the right in the previous photo is not a public toilet, it is the town weighbridge! All towns in France, even very small ones, had at least one of these, to officially certify the weight of whatever merchandise was in a cart, so that the purchaser was sure he was getting what he paid for - at least, that's the theory!

Often they are rather utilitarian in appearance, but this one is quite elegant, as befits it's position next to the church. The stone window surrounds and cornice are nicely complimented by the stylish "fishscale" slates on the roof.
