A Marriage of Convenience (II)

A Marriage of Convenience (II)
Unlike the Jupiter/Industar marriage in the previous photo, I am responsible for this one!

I bought a Fed 1F very cheaply, with broken shutter curtains, thinking to restore it at some time, but the lens mount must have been made for a specific lens, because all the 39mm thread lenses I own were 90 degrees out when mounted. So, I bought another old Fed, this time a 1G, intending to use it for spare parts.

It looked at first a forlorn hope, dented top cover and shutter not firing on any speeds, but once dismantled and cleaned of years of neglect, it worked fine, and the shutter curtains are seviceable and without holes, so I have used some of the parts from the 1F to bring this one back to life. The lens is a tab focussed f2.8/50mm Industar 26M, with another of my little homemade lens hoods.

These Industar 26M's are often derided by the "cognocenti", but I have always liked the results from them, a pleasant, creamy look, not brilliantly sharp, but sharpness isn't everything ! The camera isn't in the same league as the Canon, but still great fun to use, it's actually smaller and lighter, and I have a liking for the separate rangefinder/viewfinder.

Taken with a Canon Digital Ixus 960IS @200ISO and photofinished in Picasa

Michael Russo, RP D'Aoust, Holden Richards, JM BURT and 4 other people have particularly liked this photo

Ben, yes, almost an exact copy of a Leica II. The 1F and it's predecessors are even closer, their speeds are 1/20, 1/30, 1/40, 1/60, 1/100, 1/200, 1/500, and even B is marked Z, just as a Leica II ! Hard to get an original one now, most of them have been turned into ersatz Leicas !!
