Old Shop, Guéret 23

Old Shop, Guéret 23
I have lamented elsewhere about the relentless tide of near-identical shop facades which has swept across almost all of western Europe, so It is always a nice surprise to discover one with some character.

This leatherworker and shoemaker's shop is in the old part of Guéret, and seems not to have changed much during many years. Taken on a test roll with another new (old) toy, an Industar 61N lens, mounted on my Zorki S, both made in the former Soviet Union.

My last picture for a few weeks, as I shall be otherwise occupied!

1956 Zorki S, f2.8/52mm Industar 61N lens, x2 yellow filter. Polypan F @100iso, in Thorntons Two Bath, 5+5mins@21C Scanned @2400dpi on Epson V500

Percy Schramm, * Ren.Art *, Marie-claire Gallet, Thonon and 16 other people have particularly liked this photo

The industar 61 is a very fine lens. I have one that was installed on a FED2, I purchased a while back. It is quite sharp and your photo is "à la hauteur"! Its always nice to see your photos, great work as always!

Robert, thanks for your kind words!
I had an Industar 61LD some years ago, but sold it with a Zorki Six. This one is the pretty "Zebra" version, and although it's the earlier type it seems just as sharp as any other Soviet built Tessar clone!

Sometimes your pictures recall those of Eugène Atget, like this one. He probably wouldn't have said that he were an artist, another accordance. A rare document of a sinking epoch. Eugène would have liked it, Im sure.

Reinhold, thank you for your kind words! I am delighted that you think that this picture has echoes of the great man!

I try never to imitate, but Atget has always been my favourite early photographer - he was able to make the most ordinary of subjects into a compelling image, as you say, not always in an artistic manner, but always to make us look a little closer!

I take pictures of things that I like, especially if I think that they may not be around for much longer, and Atget did that also, not always from choice, but to earn a living, so I too hope he would have approved of some of my photos!

Sincere good wishes,
Mike
