Hôtel de Ville, Guéret, 23

Hôtel de Ville, Guéret, 23
This imposing building in Place Bonnyaud, is the home of the Mairie de Guéret, in English terms, the Town Hall. There has been a Mairie here since the late 17thC, but this building dates from around the middle of the 20thC. Guéret is the prefectural town of the departement of Creuse, and is one of the smallest prefectures in mainland France, with a population of only 14,000, so this is quite a grand edifice for a small town!

More play with the Canon Ixus - this image saved in RAW and converted to a monochrome jpeg in Gimp, - I'm rather enjoying discovering this little camera!

Canon Digital Ixus 960is running CHDK 1.3.0. Vers. 100d. Canon zoom lens, EQ about 36mm. f8@1/400 CRW file processed in UFRaw and converted to jpg in Gimp.

Splendid , indeed regarding the population number , somewhat oversized ;-)
You used the "film simulation" setting with UFRaw ? (I tried some, for the moment Rawtherapee is my favourite - In the past Nikon even sold (!) some software (in fact using some parts of NIK software , probably abandonware now, since Google bought NIK ... )

Hi Rob, thanks for the encouragement!

Basically, I've had a few probs with UFRaw and Gimp, I couldn't get Gimp to recognise UFRaw, then I found on the net that there is a problem with using the latest version of UFRaw in Win 7 using 64 bit. Long story short, I downloaded UFRaw 1.8, and it works fine. For the moment I'm happy using it, - I tried Rawtherapee and found it a bit "clunky", but I'm using it in Win7,so that's probably the problem. ;-((

As for the photo, no, I just turned down the saturation a bit, and then gave the colour balance a little tweak towards warmer, and straightened up the verticals, all in Gimp.
