Gare SNCF, Busseau-sur-Creuse

Gare SNCF, Busseau-sur-Creuse
This curving station is on the cross country line that links Limoges with Montluçon, and was once an important interchange for trains to and from Ussel and the nearby coal mines. The last coal mine closed in the 1960’s, and the branch line now terminates in Felletin, so this is now a fairly sleepy place, with only a few trains stopping each day.

It’s not all bad news though, a €22 million re-signalling of the entire line has just been completed, and the suspended daily Bordeaux-Lyon service, via here, is going to restart this summer, so it will survive!

This was taken on Rollei RPX400, developed in Caffenol with iodised salt as a restrainer, and although it’s perhaps not as effective as Potassium bromide, it can be bought in the local supermarket!

1948 Kodak Tourist, f4.5/105mm Anaston lens, x2yellow filter. Rollei RPX400 in Caffenol 20-20-6 +6g iodised salt, 24mins@21C Scanned @1200dpi on Epson V500

Rob, many thanks!
No, there are many cross country routes in France that could never justify the cost of electrification, either because they are low usage "social" routes. or because of the difficulties of the terrain.
But, more good news, TER the regional network of SNCF, are gradually introducing over 400 new double deck diesel units which have a top service speed of 180kmh, and I understand they will be used on the Bordeaux-Lyon service. When we came here this was still a locomotive hauled train, but sadly that ended before I got to ride on it!
