It appears to be woven from the leaves of a Dracena marginata, inside the skeletal structure from a Bangalow palm that used to hold the flowers and berries. It is wonderfully constructed. I found it lying at the foot of a palm tree. . . . . . . . . photo MR

Hi Helen, I expect it was used. They must have figured out by now, over many millenia, how long they have before the structure drops away after it flowers and fruits.
I've never seen a nest like this before, and didn't know we had this species of melomys here. I can't believe how this place keeps on surprising me and teaching me (or how blind I seem to be about all that goes on around me, unseen).
