Chrysomelid Beetle (Spilopyra sumptuosa)

Chrysomelid Beetle (Spilopyra sumptuosa)
This brilliant, very rare, beetle dropped right in front of me as I was checking the water level in the tank yesterday, and proceeded to wander busily around and around the top of the lid. I had my camera handy, so I snapped away to my heart's content. The information online about them says that they feed on Tuckeroo, but I have found one on a Native Tamarind (Diploglottis australis), and this one dropped out of a White Bolly Gum (Neolitsea dealbata). . . . . photo KR

They are mostly unknown apart from old museum collections. I was stunned to see the first, and then the second, and for a long time my image was the only live image of one on google. I'm so lucky that they are surviving here in my regenerating rainforest.
