Yes, the side-mounted drive shafts on this Shay "sidewinder" are on the opposite side.
The Railtown 1897 State Historic Park has 3 or 4 Shay locomotives under various states of restoration by a dedicated group of old locomotive aficionado geezers. Here is another, nearly completely restored.
