Even though these majestic Elk are raised on a farm, along with Buffalo/Bison, it's amazing to see them on the rolling hills SW of Calgary. Taken on 24 June 2013. I did think of "removing" their ear tags, but I was just too tired to do it.

Throughout history, elk have been hunted for their quality lean meat. More information on the Canadian Rocky Mountain Ranch can be found at the link below:

Haha Anne ear tags like the wing-tags of our Trumpeter Swans ... LOL ... they come to the fence like enclosed horses ... well taken and presented ... looks like they have just finished their shedding(??)

Who is doing something (like he or she) - whom is used as the object of a verb, to denote who has something done to it (like him or her) ... LOL

Ha, Art, these guys kept well away from where I was standing, and I thought they were going to turn and disappear over the hill. I must say they (and many more of them as well as the buffalo) are raised humanely in beautiful surroundings. Of course, we would all rather see animals living in the wild, but these are being raised for a specific purpose. At the rate these guys are losing their winter coats, they will need to start growing a new one before too long.

LOL! They are beautiful - nicely grouped for their photo and they have a beautiful setting - this makes for a beautiful picture. There is an elk farm that I pass regularly on my trips to Grande Prairie, but it isn't nearly as beautiful as this one. I have stopped once or twice to photograph their elk, but usually I end up deleting the pictures.
