Para Waterskiing? Water Kiteing?

Para Waterskiing? Water Kiteing?
I don't know the proper name for this. No boat was required, the skier here was simply propelled by the wind catching the sail alone. He would launch from the beach, go out a certain way then turn and come back to the beach. Then repeat the exercise. Very Eco friendly, and looks great fun....if you are that way inclined ;-)

They call it "kite-surfing" here. Very popular on Washoe Lake, our local lake, at least when it has water! It seems to have displaced sailboarding (aka windsurfing) among the younger set. It looks to have a serious learning curve, however!

PS: The local kite-surfers even put up a sign:

It looks pretty forlorn at the height of the drought! That's the completely dry lake bed behind.

Inclined is, in fact, how I'd spend most of my time if I tried this.

As far as I know it's "kitesurfing" (below). It looks like it could be great fun, but it came about at a time when I'd already had too much sun and couldn't risk being out on the water for extended periods of time.

Thanks Don. I've been wary of being in the sea since watching Jaws :-)

I see from Wikipedia that the inventor of windsurfing was from Hayling Island!
