Where windows were 2
There are so many of these bricked up windows in London, it always puzzles me. Did they run out of money after putting in the frame? Is it supposed to be some kind of architectural statement?

Where windows were 1

Picture Post 2
The Picture Post, published between 1938 and 1957; a pioneer of photojournalism. Now a lonely, faded painted poster on Stockwell Road.
In January 1941 Tom Hopkinson [its editor] published his Plan for Britain. This included minimum wages throughout industry, full employment, child allowances, a national health service, the planned use of land and a complete overhaul of education. This document led to discussions about post-war Britain and was the forerunner of the Beveridge Report that was published in December 1943 (quoted from www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/Jpicturepost.htm)
Now a mere ghost advert, meaningless to all who walk by, fades silently away just like the noble ideals of yesteryear ....
