“Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues”

“Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues”
Tom Tower is the main entrance to Christ Church College, Oxford. It is a bell tower named for its bell, 'Great Tom'.

So, here comes one of my wayward and obscure links for 'Soundtrack to Life' :-)
I have made two references to 'Tom'. Therefore, I think I should be allowed to use a track with 'Tom' in the title :-) And, the sky is very 'Blues' here :-)

In which case, it is easy for me to link this to Bob Dylan's classic “Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues” here sung by Linda Ronstadt. This comes from Linda's “We Ran” album from 1998.

According to Wikipedia “the album only lasted two weeks on the Billboard album chart, peaking at a disappointing #160. Despite positive reviews, this release was a rare commercial failure for Linda with US sales of approximately 60,000 copies. The disc was taken out of print in 2009”

I find this astonishing because, in my humble opinion, the album is full of so many gems! In particular, it contains stunning versions of two of my fave songs. They are “Icy Blue Heart” written by John Hiatt and “Dreams of the San Joaquin” written by Jack Wesley Routh & Randy Sharp”. If anyone can suggest photos to go with these two songs I will be eternally grateful :-))

Fabulous combination Roger. I was wondering what photo you could possibly use for this song and this one works perfectly. What a bell tower.

Not being a big Dylan follower I didn't recognize this song by its name, but once it got going I remembered it. That was a really nice version. I think my last Linda CD is "Winter Light" (1993) which I really like. After that it is all new music to discover. It's too bad about the poor reception to this album. I don't imagine she was used to that.

I also listened to "Icy Blue Heart" and that's really nice too. If I was to do a photo for that I might do some post processing using different shades of blue and silver or turn a photo of ice cubes into an orb lol. I'm sure you'll come up with something great. :)

Thank you so very much, Karen. And, thanks for adding my photo to your faves. Cheers for the very helpful suggestion...I shall be working on this :-) I haven't played "Winter Light" recently and I am about to put this album on the cd player! I think my fave track on this album is "Heartbeats Accelerating", But, then again, all songs sung by Linda are my faves :-)

I just listened to this cd the other day and I really like "Hearts Accelerating." I also like the songs she redid such as "Don't Talk" and "Anyone Who Had a Heart" although it's hard to beat Dionne Warwick on that one for me. :)

Eine schöne Erinnerung an Linda Ronstadt.
Den Titel kannte ich bisher nur von Bob Dylan und Neil Young.
