Hautacam

We went in search of snow yesterday afternoon. Eventually we found some, but we had to get over 1200m (4000ft) to do so. This is one of the slopes at the small ski resort at Hautacam, 1520m (4986ft), its other claim to fame is that it's also a 5 times mountain top finish in the Tour de France....

Tour de Vidalos

On the hill near the village of Agos-Vidalos stands this majestic square tower. It protected the entrance to the valley of Argeles, but served mainly as a signal tower and was used to communicate with Château de Beaucens, 6km to the south. It gives an outstanding 360° view from the top....

Col De Tramassel

We went in search of snow yesterday afternoon. Eventually we found some, but we had to get over 1200m (4000ft) to do so. Then it was on to Hautacam, 1520m (4 times a mountain top finish in the Tour de France), finally ending up at Col de Tramassel 1635m (5356ft). What a great afternoon....

La Croixe-Blanche

The White Cross: Around 1660 a traveller was savagely attacked and killed close to where this cross stands. He was buried here and a large rock was placed on top. A while later two shepherd’s thought it would be good fun to roll the rock down the hill, they did, but it stopped part way down and rolled back up to it’s original position. They told their story in the nearby villages but no one believed them. Eventually villagers of all ages gathered to verify (or not) the story, the rock was rolled once more,…

A Tractor with a View

There's a viewpoint just over the rise, it gives a wonderful view of the plains to the north (right) and of the Pyrénées mountains to the south....
