Sunday Sailings - Protesters

Sunday Sailings - Protesters
The 19th July 2009, was a historic day on the Isle of Lewis. It was the day when the Stornoway-Ullapool ferry sailed for the first time on a Sunday.

The Times reported that, and I quote, 'Hundreds of demonstrators are expected at the ferry terminal on Lewis today to protest against the first Sunday sailing,' .......but only about 12 turned out for a dignified protest. They sang Psalm 46 - 'God is our refuge and our strength' and prayed for the nation to 'turn its back from sin and wickedness'. Set that against the 400 or so pro Sunday supporters and I think you'll see the strength of feeling. However, it takes courage to stand up in the face of such overwhelming odds, so I took my hat off to this small group of people.

I suppose it depends on one's point of view? The most important thing is to have freedom of choice and not be ruled by a body of people who have one view on life and how people outside their 'society' should be running it.
