5 A Mayne Preserved the CXJ's

5 A Mayne Preserved the CXJ's
The last Regent V’s arrived in 1965, CXJ 520/521/522C with Neepsend bodywork identical to East Lancs own, for some reason these were not considered the most reliable of vehicles and were all withdrawn and went directly for scrap in 1978.
Leaving Springfield Road and re-joining Sunnyside CXJ521C is looking somewhat worse for wear as it makes its way back to Manchester Stevensons Square shortly before withdrawal.

Brian, did Mayne use Greenside Lane, Springfield Road, Sunnyside Road and Chapel Road as a loop back to Fiveways and then on to town? If so, how was Sunnyside Terminus served as that's a left turn out of Springfield Road?

Not quite. Manor Road across Fiveways and up Chappell Road to Sunnyside Road. Left on Sunnyside past Springfield to the terminus where UNF10 is photographed. From the terminus down Sunnyside left on Greenside Lane, left along Springfield and right back onto Sunnyside Road, pictured above, then right onto Chappell and Manor Road to town.

Ahh right, thanks for that. Suppose a one-way loop made sense. Could you imagine Stagecoach Enviro's trying to navigate Springfield Road nowadays?!

Maynes were beginning to struggle with parked cars and possibly one of the reasons that helped the decision to move from Sunnyside.
