Good Old Days

Good Old Days
... with conductor, ticket collector and engine driver.
But where's the fireman?

He's busy getting the coal ready for stoking up!!

I notice one is having a quiet cigarette! Don't they look smart with their caps and (for two of them) polished shoes....

A charming photo from the past...when a train looked and sounded and smelt like a train!

Thank you, Joan! :) The only disturbing modern item is the watch on the engine driver's wrist. ;)
It is a totally different experience I think. If you aren't in a hurry it is a much nicer way to travel and to see more of the landscape. Wasn't it when the steam engines were invented that someone said the speed of the train would harm the passengers? ... Well, the smoke probably did; I felt a bit funny in my stomach for a moment. At the beginning they forgot to close the door and all the steam came in. Cough... cough... ;)

Der Heizer hat seinen Job gut gemacht, denke ich! :) Aber es war rührend zu sehen, wie sie sich bei der grossen Halle um ihre Lieblinge kümmerten!
