Agate Collage & Taking a Short Break (+5 insets!)

Agate Collage & Taking a Short Break (+5 insets!)

(+5 insets!)

For the first time in my 55 years, I am experiencing what it's like to deal with two world-wide catastrophes: a real pandemic and the worst world-market crash in history. On top of that, it's an election year. That's a lot--it translates to be a very disturbing brew of anxiety, stress and fear. We joke, "the world is going crazy" but right now it's actually the reality in many places. Stores are devoid of cleaning, disinfecting and many medical supplies. People are hoarding. The populace is warned not to gather--the entire country of Italy is on lockdown…it's almost unbelievable!

It stands to reason that everything going on right now is very disturbing--and from what I can tell it's not going to get better for a long time. It feels very overwhelming because there is horrible news on so many levels, in so many directions. Even by limiting my exposure of news, it's still hard to see even the headlines as the world seems to figuratively crash and burn around us.

Although this coronavirus is really more like a bad cold to the overwhelming majority of the population, I know a lot of older folk who I love dearly, and this virus has a field day with anyone who has respiratory problems and/or those who are over 60. It's very hard for me to deal with this fear for the people I know who are susceptible.

My natural inclination in this circumstance is to run and hide, something I've always done. Maybe it's not the best way to deal with situations but it's how I tend to be.

The way I choose to "check out" is to disappear into a game for a while until I feel like the coast is clear. So that's what I'm doing right now and it's helping a lot. I'm not worrying as much anymore about everything, all day long, and the waters are calming down.

That being said, I'm not going to be around ipernity for a little while…could be a few days, could be a few weeks. I don't know. I did want everyone to know that Steve and I are fine and very happy to be on our rural oasis on 26 acres!

Today's Pictures
When I took pictures of my second batch of tumbled stones last week, there was one rock that I loved but which didn't fit into my 9x9 grid, so I'm sharing a triptych of it today! It's an agate which I found on our property and though it's not a really fabulous example of agate, it's totally spectacular in its own right, and so I've presented it to all of you to enjoy too! :) You'll find an enlarged inset for each of the views and I hope you love this pretty rock as much as I do! :)

I am also sharing two insets which show the incredible bed and drawers that Steve built for me!! Our RV has two bedrooms--the master and another bedroom which is quite tiny but perfect! This little room came with a couch and fold-out bed but we never intended to keep it. Instead, we pulled out the couch, Steve built me a bed frame and we ordered a custom mattress to fit the space (the mattress was surprisingly affordable at $130 and is the most comfortable bed I've ever had!). Then Steve built me three deep drawers with soft-close slides and spent quite a while to get a blended stain which went with the trailer. He finished last week and I am absolutely over the moon with joy. The whole unit is so professional that it looks like it came that way to begin with! I'm so happy!! YAY STEVE!! :) (By the way, the reason Steve and I sleep apart is because he snores and this way we both get a good night's rest.) :)

*****
Pam, I loved your comments about my rocks, thank you so much! And I have to admit…*blush*…I too, have licked rocks to see what they look like when wet! LOL…I'm actually going to bring a spray bottle with me when I go hunting so I can get an indication whether a rock is worth picking up or not. I'm glad you enjoyed my show, it has been very gratifying to know that so many people really liked seeing all of my rocks. :) Anyway, I hope you are doing ok! You've certainly been in my thoughts lately. Stay safe my dear! *BIG HUGS from my oasis in southern Oregon*

LOVE THE STONE.

PLEASE PLEASE.. BEAR IN MIND NO-ONE REACT WITH THIS KNEE JERK REACTION BY PEOPLE THE THE FLU WHEN IT KILLS SO MANY.

FACT.. THE SPANISH FLU THAT CAME AFTER WWI KILLED MORE THAN ALL THE PEOPLE KILLED BY WWI.... STUNNING.

FACT.. MORE PEOPLE DIE IN ROAD ACCIDENTS THAN THIS VIRUS .. WHICH WITH A LITTLE COMMON SENSE CAN BE MANAGED...

SO A LITTLE GETTING THINGS INTO PROPORTION WILL HELP YOU ALOT.

an election year - thats really anxiety, stress and fear ;-))))
sorry to disagree but I do expect neither crashing nor burning the world. I see the mentioned problems regarding elderly and already ill persons and I am worried about that, too.
I even know that we are all going to die - but very likely not from this virus ;-))))

Entrañables tus manifestaciones. Buenas tus fotografías. Me gustaría darte un remedio para que Steve no ronque, pero no lo tengo. He oído que no roncar no es bueno. Si me entero te lo digo. Que vuestro escondrijo os ayude.

This stone is incredibly beautiful, Janet, and polished up perfectly. I love the fact that it's not another more-or-less round stone but has that beautiful and unique shape. It is gorgeous and so are the photos. I hope Nancy sees it. She'll love it, too.

Sorry the news has you so upset. We'll miss you and hope you are able to find some peace in all that's happening. We actually see it as mostly media hype and think that a lot of the buying is just panic buying. We're pretty much living life as normal.

Doesn't hurt, though, to just stay at home. I'm not able to do that but wouldn't mind just "holing up" for a while. I have plenty to do here and love working and relaxing here, though I'm not into games the way you are. We'll be thinking of you.

The bed Steve made is incredible! What a craftsman he is. That is as professionally done as anyone could ask. And by the way, may we hire him for a couple of years to do all our projects? He'd certainly do a much better job than we'd be able to do.

Good work Janet, a lovely series.
I know exactly what you mean about the fear, such a depressing time for us all.
Have a good beak though if you can, and I look forward to seeing you again soon....
Have a nice day ;-)

Oh wow, Janet - this stone is absolutely stunning. I just love agate like this. I think it's a good idea of yours to take a spray bottle when you go walkabout to see if a stone is worth tumbling!! I read your bit about licking it!!!!!LOL.

I can fully understand how you feel about the world going mad. This coronavirus is really scary, but I spoke to a doctor yesterday (I had to call him in because of my breathlessness and he confirmed I had a chest infection and he gave me loads of antibiotics and I already feel much better) and asked him about the virus. He reassured me that there are no known confirmed cases in my county, and out of a large population that the UK has, we have only had 6 deaths, which is 6 too many, but apparently they would have probably died anyway because of their underlying health reasons. I asked if I would be in any danger with my respiratory problems, and he assured me that I'd be fine. Isn't it funny that as soon as I had been assured by a medical person, that I relaxed and felt better? As for the panic buying, it's ridiculous. It started here, til the supermarkets started rationing and it's calmed down. People were re-selling the toilet paper (?) on e-bay for massive amounts of money and people were actually buying them!!!!!! Absolutely stupid.

You seem to have elections, or primaries all the time in the US, we only have situations like that just before a general election. We get completely fed up with it after about 3 weeks. How you can cope with the amount of political talks beats me.

As for wanting to escape and just hunker down out of sight - fully understand, sweetie. We'll miss you terribly, but I do understand why and you can always just write to me if you need to talk. Congratulate Steve on his wonderful work with your bed and drawers. Superb work. Take care sweetie, love and hugs xxx

Janet...........I like your new bed............and you don't even need to get up to see out of the window........perfect..!! Your husband is a DIY genius :-))

I love this latest batch of polished stone photos as well. It's obvious a lot of work has gone into them, and your beautiful photos reflect that.

As to the Corona Virus............I can understand why you are worried and feel the need to hide-away...........and there's nothing wrong with that. You have to do what you feel is best for you!

Personally, we're in the "keep calm and carry on" part of the population, but we'll take sensible precautions and see what happens!

We'll miss you on IP, so try not to stay away for too long. Take care and stay safe and well :-)

Beautiful, polished stone; a very clever husband - and along comes Coronavirus to cause you so much stress, Janet. It can become very overwhelming, that's for sure. Myself, I am almost 76, have high blood pressure (despite being on meds) and have had a cough for maybe 10 or so years that occasionally turns into a full-blown "fit", where I can't breath for a scary short while. Doctors don't know what causes it. Needless to say, I can't imagine getting Coronavirus, that causes coughing, on top of what I already have! I'm just hibernating at home, but will have to get out for short drives or a very occasional walk before too long, to keep my general sanity : ) The Stock Market? I'm simply not following it at all, to reduce stress. Stay well!

I met a woman in Krakow, Poland who told me about an elementary school trip to a salt mine that now has a large concert hall in it.

She (as a child) licked the cavern wall to find out if was really salty...yes, 100%.
