Pictures for Pam, Day 69: Lovely Light on Lemon

Pictures for Pam, Day 69: Lovely Light on Lemon
(+3 insets!)

Ugh…so tired…

My ever-cheerful feathery alarm started going off this morning with a happy "PEEP!" and blearily I reached over to grab my clock…"Please say 5:30…please say 5:30…" I blinked and hoped what I saw was wrong: 6:55. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! *whimper*

I had the worst time sleeping last night, and it all had to do with photography. Specifically the next theme for Macro Monday, which is "Perfume Bottle." See, I don't wear perfume. I don't mind a slight hint of something natural smelling like vanilla, but that's about it. Thus, I don't have anything like that in my house. When I went to sleep last night, I couldn't stop thinking about where I'd get a bottle…Dollar store?...Thrift store?...Garage Sale?...Heck, any store would do, it's the bottle that I want so I should find something easily.

Then I was thinking about alternatives. Couldn't I use any bottle and fill it with my own perfume recipe? Technically that would be a perfume bottle! Ooooooh…don't we have some super cool crystal salt and pepper shakers? What a neat idea! I wonder what box they are in…hmmm… I wandered around our garage in my mind, mentally opening boxes and peering inside.

Then I began thinking about the concept of creating my own perfume…it could be any color…it could be sparkly…maybe the bottle could have something in there too like marbles or something…

I lay awake for what seemed like all night thinking about all the possibilities…there were so many interesting ideas to consider…

When I tried to shut my mind down, I'd soon begin thinking about another part of the challenge…oh dear…

"PEEP-PEEP!" and "BURBLE-BURBLE-BURBLE!" I pictured Pumpkin cheeping with her eyes closed, her darling little body vibrating with every sound and I couldn't help but smile and drag myself out of bed.

"Good morning little girl! Oh how I love you!"

And so the day began! As it happened, I wasn't as exhausted as I thought I'd be, hooray! I've spent the morning and afternoon appreciating photography from my wonderful and talented contacts and anyone who's left me a comment on my picture from yesterday. How nice. And Steve's coming along with the deck project so it's been a super day for both of us!

Today's picture is finally back on track, and it's from our trip down south to San Anselmo. Nathalie has a couple of lemon trees and I couldn't resist the beautiful light on them. I am sharing another inset too!

(I'm also including two morning panoramas from the other day showing the lovely light as the sun comes over the hill. You'll see the dramatic change as the sun rises! Also, you'll see our gigantic relic of a bulldozer in our field...it's a many-ton lawn ornament at the moment as it doesn't run!)

Pam, I sure do hope that you're able to get a good night's sleep. I have often had trouble with this, unlike my husband who can look at the bed and fall asleep. It's always taken me time to relax and drift off, no matter the methods I've used. Some work better than others, some don't work after a while, some have never worked! What about you? Are you an "easy sleeper"? I sure hope so. All of us need as much rest as we can get, the healing powers are so important! Thinking of you every day my dear!!

Absolutely beautiful photo of the orange (including inset). Lovely light and shadow. And the texture of the skin is superb as is the bokeh. Panoramas are also wonderful. I hope to come back to read the story later.

Love your lemon shot.. Janet. A really, lovely picture!!

I can fully empathise with your story too. I have a real problem with getting to sleep. I lie there for hours.Once I go off I can sleep and sleep but have to awaken and
drag myself up exhausted. It's a regular problem for me.

Bottle is a bottle, no matter if there is anything in it ;-)

I try to find something from the second hand store (flee market).

Once again wonderful series! And yes, your idea to make your own perfume is great! And lemon is great choice for the main ingredient: "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!" =D

The bright and sunny yellow makes my day (it's drearily grey outside....)! Very well ecposed leomon photos, and the panoramas are fabulous! You have a great and unimpeded great view, as a town dweller I'm envious:-)

Title reaction from a crazy Pod Sister: To be light on lemon is good if you don't like a sour taste...but for those who do (me included)...no light...but that's me, always in the dark. and then I visit your first PIP...wow, forget the title, get on with images: Yeah Yeah Yeah, three in one, perfect light in all of them...Play with light Janet, I do love to see it in all your images and wish they were mine, I live in a dark place and the light is not coming until probably May. February is bad here, and today...we are getting ready for the worse snow storm of the season by this weekend...Send some of your light my way my dear friend.

Your notes, your comment: Yes, Pod Sister, you did it again, Your reached out and touched my heart! Thank you.

I'm salivating just looking at your picture ! :o)) You're such a power cell, I'm not surprised you have trouble falling asleep ! ;-)

Before, I had this problem too. But since I left my worries behind - the ex-husband (!), last summer's work, the cataract operation, work, my mother's death too unfortunately, in short since I retired in every sense of the word: I SLEEP! I got into the habit of reading for at least an hour before going to sleep, so that my brain can disconnect from the screens (TV, computer) and understand that it is no longer the day. It is effective!!

You can also count sheep instead of counting... perfume bottles! AHAHAH...***hugsss**

It's a simple lemon. But in your picture it becomes a work of art. The lemon seems to be a lantern shining against a blurred background.

We used to make our own perfume as kids Janet and I use the term perfume very loosely ;-)) It was mostly rose petals and leaves that we knew not what they were!!

That is awesome, Janet. Having citrus in one's trees is something I've always dreamed of but we see it only in southern California when we visit friends there. The panoramas are superb as well. We are out in the country more or less, but our view, even with the bulldozer doesn't come close to that.

With the 100mm macro, I was informed when I got it that the IS would do little good, especially if I was using a tripod. In fact, the advice was to turn off any IS when using the tripod. I do most of my macro photography on a tripod, but it would be nice to have something with IS for hand-held photos.

Been cooking most of the day but everything is about ready to go. Just has to be thrown together and served now. Must try the sous-vide meat though I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of getting what's needful and doing the cooking that way. Sounds wonderful, though, and I know it's very popular.

Had trouble sleeping last night, too, in spite of being very tired - probably thinking about today's guests and the menu. Finally got up and dozed a bit on the sofa. Usually Nancy is the one who's up and wandering around the house at all hours of the night, but we changed roles last night, as sometimes happens.

Usually I'm like Steve. Just looking at the bed makes me fall asleep, something very frustrating to my dear wife. It's anytime, anywhere, in any position. Anyway, should sleep well tonight when everyone is gone again. Hope you get a good night's rest tonight. Sleep is more and more important to me as I get older.

As to perfume, couldn't you just repost this picture and call it "Essence of Lemon" or "Redolence of Citrus" or something like that. Interesting that you don't use perfume, too. My wife doesn't either, though not from any real dislike of it.

Oh I love this picture - the light makes it look like an orange, but the PIP shows that it's definitely a lemon. Oh they are so lucky. Mandi has 3 orange/mandarin trees in her garden and they've been completely full this winter. Her husband gathers about 15 every day, only the ones close to dropping. I've suggested Mandi makes orange curd, or marmalade with them all. Then they won't go to waste. They give out a lot to people too!!!

As for the landscape pictures - what an incredible land you have. The view across towards the mountains is fantastic. Now the mombretia would grow very well here. Something to think about.
