Sierra Juniper
Another worthy addition to my collection! This is near Heenan Lake, off California SR 89 near Monitor Pass. The burned trees in the background are from the Washington Fire in June 2015, which burned almost 20,000 acres and was lightning-caused. The Slink Fire, also lightning-caused, was active south of this area just last September and grew to over 25K acres. Fortunately, according to the online maps I've checked, it didn't reach this far north to burn off this area again. It _was_ close enough, however, that SR 89 was closed for a while.

Annemarie, William Sutherland, Pam J, Janet Brien and 6 other people have particularly liked this photo

Looks like a very old pine. I see the slope with the fire damage. Part of the natural recycling process I presume. Fine shot!

Thanks, Andy! This is another of the huge Sierra junipers (Juniperus grandis aka Juniperus occidentalis australis) that are one of my favorite photo subjects! (I have a whole album on them.) And it is no doubt a very old tree, probably no longer a saplng even when Columbus landed.
And this area burned off _again_ last summer! :(

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, such a beautiful tree...but you're thinking it probably burned down in the latest fire? *SAD* That's too bad :(

Thanks, everyone! Janet, Andy, as I've put in the caption, evidently this area was spared another go-round of fire last September because that fire didn't get this far north, so this tree should be OK. Whew!
